In the middle of the night, Tegan, Dannak, and I jolted out of our slumber, awoken by a loud ‘boom’. I shoved Dannak into a corner and donned my breastplate, while Tegan ran to the door of our room. We could hear the sounds of a fight on the other side of the door, so Tegan threw it open, and tossed a dagger. I could see a dragon cultist in fine blue and black regalia through the doorway, so I blasted him with Magic Missiles. This cultist, likely the attack squad leader, held forth a crystal orb, and channeled a blast of lightning at Tegan that the bard nimbly evaded.
Suddenly, a blue dragon swooped down onto the stairs! It swiped at Brick, who was already surrounded by a squad of cultists, and bit brave Tegan. Tegan hit back with a Thunderwave, killing one of Brick’s opponents, and knocking back the rest of the cultists, and even the dragon! From the doorway, I hit the blue wyrm and the cultist leader with a Vitriolic Sphere, then ducked back inside to keep an eye on Dannak, who still cowered in the corner. Through the wall, it sounded as if Gunx and Tolarin were fighting foes inside their corner room, too.
Looking back through the doorway, I saw the leader leap up the stairs and blast at Tegan again with his electrical orb. Then Jorad, from the doorway of his room, hit the leader with an Eldritch Blast, while Brick ran by and lopped off his head with his Luckblade. The battle ended as quickly as it began. The rest of the cultist attack squad lay dead. The blue dragon rose into the air to fly off, but gave Brick a vicious parting bite. Brick slumped to the ground, but Tegan and I quickly tended to his wounds with our sorcery and spellcraft combined. By morning, Brick was feeling right as rain.
At breakfast, Delaan Winterhound arrived. He was shocked to learn of the nighttime attack, but somewhat unsurprised that we were targeted, due to what he called our “rising fame”… not bragging: his words. He agreed to take custody of Dannak, and beseeched our fellowship to travel forthwith to Altand, an elven village in the Misty Forest that had recently come under draconic attack. Beshaba willing, this quest will have some connection to our greater aims, klaatu barada nicto amen.
