We awoke this morning to finally meet Maccath the Crimson, an unimpressive tiefling sorceress of dubious abilities. We told her that we had been commissioned by the Council of Waterdeep to seek her, and news of the Draakhorn. Maccath said that cultists have already left with the horn. She confessed that she has been an accomplice to Arauthator, but now wishes to escape with the arcane knowledge she has gathered here. To that end, she offered to help our fellowship, handing over our gear, and a few choice treasures from Arauthator’s coffers. For Gunx’s hand, a Ring of Cold Resistance; for Brick’s bow, two Arrows of Slaying. She also parted with scrolls of Haste, Protection from Energy, and Disintegration, and cast a spell of Greater Invisibility upon Brick, as she sent our party down a dark hole to hunt Arauthator once more.

Stealthily, we dropped down into Arauthator’s lair, and spread out to look for the creature, spotting the beast almost immediately, bathing in a slush pool to the southwest. Tegan and Jorad momentarily froze in terror, but Gunx and Tolarin, protected by ring and scroll, brazenly dashed towards the dragon, while Brick and I smote the wyrm with Arrows of Slaying and Magic Missiles. Gunx withstood the point-blank blast of Arauthator’s breath, and Tegan broke out of his fear paralysis and into song, cheering Gunx to fight on.

As Arauthator rose out of his slush pool, I blasted him with the Disintegration scroll spell. Arauthator dropped out of the air to attack Tolarin, but Tegan hit the dragon with a Shatter spell, and cheered Gunx on once more. Gunx attacked, and knocked the dragon back into the slush pool, but it lashed back with its tail. Arauthator reared up, let loose a last blizzard of his breath, then fled into the slushy sea water and escaped.

The battle was over, but Tegan and Tolarin lay frozen stiff on the ground. We quickly revived them, then gathered as much loot as we could carry: gold and silver coins, and precious stones, and an assortment of valuable potions. Brick found a Lucksword to add to his weapon collection, and Jorad found a rather macabre rod, custom crafted for the hand of a warlock.

We brought our loot, and Maccath the Crimson, out of Arauthator’s lair, and announced our victory to the people of Oyaviggaton, who celebrated the dragon’s retreat. Tonight, we will be their honoured guests, and tomorrow we will depart on The Frostskimmr and make our watery way back to the City of Splendors, Beshaba willing, klaatu barada nikto amen.
